From a Dog's Point of View

I rose out of my bed by the fireplace, stretched and yawned. I looked around, no one was awake yet. Might as well get a drink, I though. So I wandered to my water bowl and looked down at it. It was empty again. I growled at it, I couldn't believe they forgot to fill it last night again. I sighed and decided it was time to get the family up.

I went into the living room, took a big breath, and barked as loud as a German shepherd could (which I might add, is quite loud!). I listened carefully, no sounds, so I tried again and again. Finally I heard a bedroom door slam, and out came Jesse, my owner. I heard another door open, and out came his daughter Liz.

I stood there panting and whining, hoping they'd get the picture. Which is a poor dog dying of thirst. Of course I was over dramatizing it but as a dog, it's kind of what I do. I ran in a circle, whining, I headed half-way to the kitchen and back. I was hoping they'd soon get the picture, because now I was getting hungry. Jesse just looked at me and said, "Why did you wake us up? It's 7:00 in the morning and a Saturday too."

He just didn't get it did he? I was thirsty! "Hey! Take a step into my paws pall." I barked back.

"He probably just needs water or something." Liz said sleepily, heading to the kitchen.

Finally! Someone knows what I need! I followed eagerly into the kitchen after her. She picked up my bowl and took it to the sink and filled it. Excited, I started hoping just a little. She finally put the bowl down and I jumped onto the bowl lapping happily. My mouth was happy as I downed the cool refreshing water.

Once I was done taking a drink I sat by the cabinet my food was kept in, sat down, and whined. This one was obvious. How could they not know what I wanted?

"Liz get the dog some food. I'm going to go get dressed." I heard Jesse say

"I'm on it dad"

Liz came in and opened the cabinet and got my bowl and food. I heard the food clink into the bowl, I could smell it, and boy it smelled good. I jumped up and down excitedly.

"Down Dem, here's your food. Sit."

I sat and watched as she put the bowl down. When it was on the floor, I waited for the go signal. I saw Liz wave her hand and leapt to it. I ate as fast as I could, why bother tasting when your as hungry as a dog every morning. I was done eating in a flash. Then, as it went everyday, I sat by the door.

Liz opened the door and I went out and did what dogs do. Then came back inside. I decided, after all that eating, and drinking, I was tired again. So I headed back to my bed by the fireplace, turned around, scratched my bed into place, and laid down. I watched Liz as she came into the living room, patted me on the head, and went back to her room. It was a great Saturday, as usual.
